Final Ancillary Tasks

These are my two final ancillary task; I created a CD DigiPak and a Magazine Advert. To make them authentic I did a lot of research behind each product, and kept the theme the same in both products.

FeedBack on Ancillary Tasks

To receive feedback on my ancillary tasks I sent the images out on Whatsapp to six contacts. With the feedback I received it has helped me understand what my target audience like and dislike about my products. This helped me with the final decisions on whether to re-edit my final products. In the end I decided that overall there was mainly positive feedback, so I decided to keep my products the same, as they suited my target audience well.

Construction of Song Sheet for CD DigiPak

Firstly I adjusted the exposure of the picture on PicMonkey.

I then cropped the image into a square shape making sure there was a large gap big enough to fit the lyrics of the song.

I then added the sweet hearts filter to once again follow the continuity of the other images.

I then placed the image into AdobePhotoShop, and used the magic wand tool to select the background.

I then used the brightness tool to make the background darker than the artists.

I then added the 'Meet Me Half Way' font, by adding it into the layers box, and placing it in the appropriate place.

I then got the lyric up on Google so I could type the lyrics onto the page. I also made sure all the lyrics were correct and didn't have any spelling mistakes.

I then made sure the lyrics didn't cover, the artists and were the correct size so there was enough room and the audience could also read it.

This is my final product of the song sheet page, I tried to make sure that all the conventions were followed throughout the process of making this.

Construction of Back Cover for CD DigiPak

Firstly I auto adjusted the exposure on PicMonkey to make the lighting correct.

I then added the sweethearts affect to keep with the continuity of the rest of the images.

I then cropped the image into a square shape to fit the dimensions of a CD back cover.

I then used the magic wand tool to select the background.

I then used the brightness tool to darken the background to make the artistes stand out more.

I then placed the bar code onto the image through the layers box, and put it in the appropriate place. I decide to put it in the top right corner because other real media product had done this and also I didn't want to cover up my artists.

I then added all the fonts of the different song titles onto the page through the layers box.

I then placed all the layers into the appropriate places, making the white font in front of the female artist so it was easier to read and the black font in front of the male artist.

I then added the company logos onto the back cover through the layers box.

After looking at real media products I noticed that they all had a copyright section next to the company logos, I decided to do the same to make sure my product was realistic as possible.

I then put all the attachments into the appropriate places so you could still focus on the artists.

This is my final product of the back cover, I'm happy with the outcome because I have followed the conventions of real media products.

Construction of Spine for CD DigiPak

Firstly I added the correct dimesions for a spine, to ensure that it would fit the rest of my magazine. In inches width was 0.3879 and height was 4.25.

I then adjusted the colour for the background.

I then placed the font 'Meet Me Half Way' font in the layers box.

I then placed the font 'Jayla' font in the layers box as well.

I then adjusted the sizes and placed the font in the correct places.

This is the final product of the spine, I have kept it simple, because after looking at real media products I noticed that they were also simple, and I wanted my to be as realistic as possible.

Construction of the Front of CD DigiPak

Firstly I auto adjusted the exposure to the image on PicMonkey, to make the lighting correct.

I then cropped the image into a square shape so it would fit the front cover appropriately.

I then added the sweethearts filter onto the image, to create a dull affect, but make the colours and the artist stand out more.

I then put the image into AdobePhotoShop, and put the size into 4.75 inches, so it was the correct size for the CD cover.

I then used the magic wand tool to select the background.

I then used the curves tool to b=make the background darker, to make the artists stand out more.

I then once again got the brightness tool and lowered the brightness to allow the background darker than the artists.

I then placed the 'Jayla' font onto the image using layers.

After adding the 'Jayla' font I then added the 'Meet Me Half Way' font, by once again using layers.

After I put the texts into the correct places and made the larger or smaller to look appropriately on the image.

This is the final product, once I had finished creating and editing it.

Thinking of a name for the band

Trying to think of a band name was hard, as trying to think of a suitable name for a pop group with  boy and girl members was difficult. As this type of band is very rare and hard to create an interesting name that stands out.

Some ideas that I considered are;
  • KoKo
  • Xtra Spice
  • Jayla
The name I have decided to use is Jayla; this is combination of my two actors names, Jamie and Tayla. I think this name will work well for them as it is an original name, and can be used for a pop band, with a target audience aged around 11-18 with boys and girls but mainly aimed to girls.

Target Audience Research

My main target audience will be people aged from 11-18, all though it will be aimed at boys and girls; I feel even though I aiming for both boys and girls, girls will be more drawn to it. It will mainly be aimed at this age group as I feel they will be more interested in my video, than other people who are older. Children that are younger might be interested in it and watch it, but I don't think they will mainly aim to watch this type of pop video. I feel that girls will be mainly drawn to this video as its a pop video, and will be more about love, and fighting/travelling for each other. Boys around this age group aren't interested in the themes for this video they are more interested in games, fighting and sports.

Ancillary Task 1 - CD Album Cover

This album cover is for Avicii - Wake Me Up.
This CD Album cover shows the artist is the background, almost blended in to make the writing in white stand out more. The image is also simple, where the artist is looking away from the audience, he doesn't interact with them, he makes them wonder what he is thinking.

This album cover is for Daft Punk - Get Lucky.
Not much can be said for this album cover as, like many other album covers it is very simplistic, not a lot going on the cover, though when we look we know who's album it is as the masks are like an iconic trademark when it comes to daft punk as it is also what makes them unique and stand out from everyone else.

We Can't Stop - Single, Miley Cyrus
This album cover is for Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop.
The image is quit blurred, which represents the way people see things once they've been at a party drinking all night,  which is what the album is going for to represent; as the image is of a party scene and not of Miley herself it represent the main focus of the song which is not stopping when they go out for the night. The fonts are bright and bold and stand out from the background image.

After researching front covers from current albums, that have recently been released, I decided to find CD's I have at home and see the different styles, codes and conventions they have.

These images show the inside pages of CD DigiPaks; the lyrics pages. By looking at actual media products, it helped me get a rough idea of how I would lay out my media product lyrics page.

On real media products this is the spine of a CD DigiPak. I noticed how they mainly have the name of the artist and the name of the album. This will help me design my CD spine as it will allow me to make a realistic spine for DigiPak.

These are real media products of the front page, these are rather simple, and just show the artists, with the album title and the artists name. This helps me when designing my front cover, as I can follow the simplicity to make it look as realistic as possible.

The back covers of real media products have the label companies logos, copyright information, bar codes, list of songs in that album and an image. These features will help me whilst designing my back cover as I can make them as realistic as possible.
